Alexander McQueen, 1969-2010

The fashion world has lost a true inspiration. Alexander McQueen is dead at the age of 40.

He was one of the edgiest designers around.

And a darling of fashion-forward celebs

Alexander McQueen took his own life.

Proving once again that the most creative minds often belong to the most tortured souls.

It is truly our loss.

I hope he now has peace.

Godspeed, Alexander McQueen.

It's truly a tragedy for someone so young to feel life has no more to offer him, and my sympathies go out to his family and friends, but I can't agree that Alexander McQueen's death is any kind of loss to the world as a whole. He designed over-the-top fashions to be worn by socialites and movie stars. Any doctor, nurse or soldier currently toiling in Haiti, for that matter any guy running a snowplow in the Northeast for 48 hours straight this weekend, has a far more important spot in the world than a fashion designer whose creations are too ridiculous and too costly to be worn by 99.99999% of the population. I hope at least he did some good with the money he made.

Your outpouring of understanding is astonishing. His loved ones will be touched by your sympathy, I'm sure. As will all of the people who enjoyed employment from his house of fashion.
