Ralph Lauren's oversized Polo ponies on the US Olympic Team's Opening Ceremony uniforms: tacky self-promotion or heartland American fashion?

Very interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about that one. Not what I would have pictured them wearing.

Oh goodness, like you have to ask; tacky self-promo fer shure... granted, he is an American designer, and the polo pony is quite recognizable as American fashion but crap, it's as big as... well... as a polo pony on their chests. Why the 72 point font, Ralph? Compensate much? Afraid your marketing push might be diluted in the shuffle of, you know, world-class, medal-winning, athletic talent? God forbid!

Self-promotion, yes. However, watching the opening ceremonies, I didn't notice the logo and wouldn't have known it was Ralph were it not mentioned by the announcers. I think they looked really great, but they must have been HOT.
