We saw the tornado ya'll. It passed just miles from our house. It was HUGE. It supposedly touched down over by My Kid's school. We're only just starting to get reports of damage, but he's not going to do his homework, just in case the roof was blown off his school and he doesn't have to go tomorrow.
They actually let school out several hours early this afternoon in anticipation of this. I didn't realize how bad it had gotten - I drove home from work (20 miles downtown) with the tornado sirens going off but shit, they go off all the time. I didn't think I was in any imminent danger. But just as I got home, it got pretty scary pretty fast. I wasn't home 10 minutes when they were reporting that a tornado had touched down in Germantown just a few miles from our house. Big Daddy made us sit in the downstairs bathroom with a futon matress over our heads. (We don't have basements here.)
We were tracking the tornado on the local news station and when it was past us we burrowed out of the bathroom and went outside and YOU COULD TOTALLY SEE THE TORNADO IN THE SKY BEHIND OUR NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that we're all okay here.
UPDATE: 8:34 p.m.
CNN just said the tornado that hit the Hickory Ridge Mall was at least an F3, maybe an F4. Also? There's still another line of storms to come. Gads.

It was just a few streets away here too. Thought of you as it passed your area. Glad to hear you're okay.
Glad you're okay! It's pretty scary when they pass that close to your home.
So glad you're okay! We were nervous for a while downtown, but we dodged the bullet, again. My poor son, however, is terrified of bad storms, and spent more than a few minutes in the laundry room, ducking and covering, right next to the litter box. Poor thing!
I used to work in Hickory Hill and the damage there is so amazingly bad.
Oh my god. Thankfully you are okay. I didn't think that you guys get hit by tornados. Obviously I was way off base.
Holy crap. So glad you are o.k. Please post later saying you are o.k. I may be a lurker, but I'm a CONCERNED lurker.
Yikes! Very glad you guys are okay and hope you remain so!
I have seen something like 5 or 6 tornadoes with my own two eyes since moving to Texas. I guess it's no surprise that all of my worst nightmares (I mean literal nightmares, when I'm asleep) have featured tornadoes.
P.S. On your letter to mother nature, it has been 80 degrees here for THREE DAYS. This morning, it's 36 degrees. Ye gads.
Glad you are ok too. That was the worst storm I can remember with lives lost so high at 44!
That's super scary! I'm so glad you're ok!
wow glad you're ok! OMG the Hickory Ridge Mall!!! Hopefully no one I know died.
Glad to hear you are ok. I know 50 some people were killed by the tornados. The storms were wicked when they blew through here, but weren't tornado danger.
Very scary, glad you're ok!
I also was worried about you!
We had the bad storms in So. Indiana too. SB's school was closed yesterday and on a 2 hr. delay today. They are not sure if it was a tornado or just straight line winds that did the damage.
I didn't post about this, because, really, our puny little damage is NOTHING compared to yours.
Too many lives lost.
I have never seen a tornado with my own two eyes, but I always dream about them too.
