There's thought-provoking and then there's THOUGHT-PROVOKING.

I have this wonderfully deep and thought-provoking post in my head that was inspired by an NPR story I heard while driving home last night and will be called "The Most Notorious Example of Conspicuous Consumption," but it's 3:30 on a Friday afternoon and that is typically not a time that's synonymous with "thought-provoking" so I think I will save it for Monday. Which is by its nature an incredibly thought-provoking time.

So here is my dilemma, and it has to do with CHEATING ON YOUR HAIR DRESSER. I don't think technically it should be called "cheating" b/c if I go to someone else, he's totally going to know. It's not like, after 14 years, I can suddenly convince him that I managed to cut my own hair.

But there's this girl in my office - I'll call her Phoebe - who has hair very similar to mine - thick, course, wavy. She also straightens hers, but wears it all one length (no layers) in order to not be huge and helmet-like. (Not that mine is helmet-like. Well kind of.) So today, Pheebs comes in with a GREAT new hair cut. She cut about 4 inches off of it and chopped in layers and it looks so freaking GREAT. I think it's shag-layered (as opposed to stack-layered, like mine).

Then she tells me that this guy she goes to is really super at cutting thick hair and that two other girls in the office with massive amounts of hair like us also go to him. Apparently he is some kind of master with the thinning shears.

And I don't want to copy her or anything, but I want her hair cut. I really do. And, ironically, I have an appointment with my own guy tomorrow. So I took some photos of Phoebe's hair that I will take with me tomorrow to show him. But if it doesn't look right when he's done I'm seriously going to her guy and saying, "Give my Phoebe's hair."

Have you ever cheated on your hair dresser?

yes, and i felt bad. until i got a new haircut that fucking rocked. and new color. and my new hairdresser listened to me because i hadn't been seeing her for 12 years and she didn't know anything about me and she wanted to make me be part of her client list. and i haven't looked back since. sometimes you just need a change, and the best way is to know someone else with your hair type who goes to an amazing person. go for it, i say. i'd even skip the appt with your old person.

Ok... I have to say, cheating on my hairdresser is one of the best things I ever did.

My normal hairdresser, we'll call him "Jim" did a great job for a few years. Well, one day he told me about this horrid stylist next to his station and how she makes girls look horrible, she has no skills and he felt her client base was full of rather questionable characters.

Well, about 3 months later I decided on impulse that I wanted to get my hair cut short. Jim got caught up with another appointment and who does he insist on having me go to for my hair cut. Yup - hookah-hairdresser. We broke up there and then and I haven't looked back since.

My new hairdresser is fabulous and I'm glad I left (and I never cut my hair short).

I say check out the new hairdresser. Your original hairdresser will understand - people need change and I don't know if one must be monogamous to a stylist... jus' sayin.

Not only do I cheat, I usually leave 'em for the new guy. ;-)

I have never cheated on my CURRENT hairdresser, because she's fabulous. But I have cheated on hairdressers past, and I always lied about it horribly. I mean, I admitted to cheating, but I lied about the reason. Like I'd say I was out of town when I got it cut, or something.

That would be a resounding YESSSSSSS...and just 2 weeks ago. The stylist I've had for 4 years WOULD NOT, I repeat, WOULD NOT cut my hair short enough for me. I wanted it "Snap your finger...it's THAT short" short...but she kept doing it ALL wrong! So, I found a new stylist at a new salon/spa that's right down the street from me. I heart my new hair cut and my new stylist! Next step is to get her to hit me with some highlights and it's all good!

I hated leaving my old one, but she had been disappointing me so much the last few months...starting back with the "do" she hooked me up with for our Christmas Party. I mean, if I'm going to pay her so much $$ she can make her friggin car payment, then I want what I want, when I want it! Yanno?

Whew...okay, thanks for letting me rant about that! LOL

P.S. My husband and everyone at the office says they love the cut I have now! Some of the older men (yes. men. who are not my husband -- noticing a woman's hair cut!) are even coming up and commenting on it! Yaaaaaaaaaay!
